How EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) works

Choke valve work in gasoline engine.

A carburetor is used to supply fuel and air to an engine. A carburetor consists of a fuel storage chamber, a choke, a jet (actuated by the accelerator), an airflow restrictor, and an idle restrictor. The amount of fuel in the storage chamber is controlled by the Floating Valve.

Choke Valve, The choke valve is cable operated. This choke valve is used to start the engine when it is cold or when the vehicle has been parked for a long time and the engine has cooled down and often when it is necessary to diagnose engine faults. In such a case, what the choke does is restrict the air thrown into the piston by the carburetor.

Then the amount of fuel supplied to the piston through the intake valves increases. This can be used in cold conditions or when there are fuel flow errors, fuel is not burning properly due to air restriction. In case of errors, operating this choke valve will consume too much fuel for travel.

Most gasoline engines now use fuel injection instead of the carburetor. Used in early diesel engines, this works by detecting the temperature of the engine.
